Interpreting a Dream
The Dream:
Mr. A dreamt that he entered a very big house and he discovered three rooms that appeared completely abandoned. He opened the door of the bathroom and saw a man holding someone's head in his hands. This was a shocking scene, but he was not scared. He asked the man something he doesn't remember, and the man told him to wait for him with his sister.
Mr. A looked for his sister but couldn't find her. He suddenly saw himself in another place, with many people. It was somewhat dark and he couldn't recognize anyone there. He leaves this place and walks on the deserted streets until he finds a small forest. A woman tells him to come nearer but he doesn't go there because he was afraid of the snakes.
First Interpretation:
The big house is his own psychic sphere. The three abandoned rooms he finds there represent the psychological functions that are in an atrophic condition in his psychic sphere and are therefore ignored by him. There are four psychological functions. The one that has not been ignored is his main psychological function, the one that determines his behaviour.
The bathroom is related with his sexuality. The man he found there was a part of his personality. The head he was holding could be the dreamer's head even though it didn't seem to be.
His sister is also a part of his personality. The dreamer describes her as a very active person, with many social relationships and someone who is always busy with social events. She represents a part of his personality that resembles her, a part that cares too much about society and his position in it.
The dreamer cannot find her because he cannot admit that she is a part of his personality. The somewhat dark place with many people represents an ignored part of his personality with many different characteristics.
The deserted streets are his deserted path in life, and the forest hides many dangers he wants to avoid, because there he will find the roots of human nature.
The woman who calls him represents the anima (the figure of the perfect woman for a man). He is afraid to go to the forest and meet her because he is afraid of the snakes. He is afraid of the anima because he doesn't want to face the truth. The snakes represent bad events that will cure him by correcting his mistakes.
Second Interpretation:
The man in the bathroom was holding the dreamer's head, which means that the dreamer is too rational and his cold rationalism can make him get lost on craziness, that's why he loses his head. The dreamer was not scared of the scene he saw because he is indifferent to his tendency of being totally governed by his reasoning.
He is too rational and futile; he resembles the futile side of his sister's personality that cares only about social events.
He is afraid of the opposite sex because he is afraid to face the truth about himself. The truth is that he has not developed his feelings and sensations, and his intuition is childish. Only his cold rationalism is functioning in his conscience and deciding everything.
He is afraid to be cured with the truth, which he denies to see. However, he has to develop his atrophic psychological functions, because this is the only way he may have normal sexual relationships.
